South Shore Dynamos Tryouts

We are proud to pass along information for the South Shore Conference Dynamo Elite teams.  This is a program that many of our MYH parents had an opportunity to tryout and play for when they were kids.

The SSC has teamed up with a few other leagues around MA to bring it all back, and offer a "club" like program for town program boys and girls during the 2020-2021 season.  (The 2019-2020 season has been a HUGE success for the SSC Dynamos so far.  For anyone local interested, the current Peewee Minor 2008s and Squirt Minor 2010s teams will play games at Hobomock 1 next Sunday Feb 9 at 1220pm and 240pm)

All games will be played on Sunday afternoon/early evenings and will not overlap with town A level hockey games.  Most home games will be at Asiaf Arena/Brockton.  They will also have skills or practice each week at Zapustus/Randolph or Rockland Rink.

The opposing teams will be the elite teams from the following leagues: Greater Boston (home rink: Wellesley), Merrimack Valley (Chelmsford Forum/North Billerica), Middlesex (O'Brien Rink/Woburn), North Shore (Hockey Town USA/Saugus).  Southern Rhode Island is also possibly entering the league next year.

Playing for MYH in the 2020-2021 season is a requirement to play for the Dynamo's.

Tryouts ($50 mail in application linked below, $65 walk in fee) will be held in March by the SSC Dynamo directors and coaches.

The ages available and costs for 2020-2021 Dynamo's are the following:

  • 2008 (Peewee Major) $1099
  • 2009 (Peewee Minor) $1099
  • 2010 (Squirt Major) $1099
  • 2011 (Squirt Minor) $1099
  • 2012 (Mite) $1099

Alternates cost will be $795

Included in costs:  20 league games plus playoffs, 10 skill sessions, 15 practices (minimum), 1 tournament entry fee, team jersey and socks, team jacket.

Once player is selected, they will need to pay a 50% deposit at that time, with the balance due by June 1, 2020.

See below for the SSC Dynamo info attachments, which includes the tryout application, schedule, and costs.

Anyone interested in this SSC program who will be playing for MYH in the 2020-2021 season is invited to tryout.

Thanks,

Marshfield Youth Hockey

Hockey Plus! Summer Camp

This summer will be year number 48 for Hockey Plus! Summer Camp. Our website, www.pluscamps.com, can give you an idea of the fun the campers have with us.

The answers to common questions:

  • Learn to skate children transition very well into our program and improve greatly while having fun!
  • The Registration Form position request is more for the campers that will be in the older group, in the younger group we rotate positions.
  • AM drop off is 8:30 to 9:00.
  • We ask the campers in the younger group to come dressed for hockey, we have coaches and counselors tie skates and help with neck guards and helmet straps. When the campers come off the ice, we help them out of their equipment and help them pack their bags so that equipment does not get lost.
  • A typical day is hockey from 9-11, change and lunch with a movie, sports trivia, a trip to the South Shore Sports Center for a variety of activities such as whiffleball, or soccer, or lacrosse, then a trip to the South Shore Racquet Club where we use the courts for three activities in rotation - basketball, volleyball, and dodgeball (with beachballs), then back to the rink for a snack, and finally back to the Sports Center for a final activity.

Some other important information:

  • We have adult supervision who are all currently teachers or college students.
  • Our high school counselors are all former campers, are competitively chosen for the position, and are fully trained.
  • We are highly organized, always concerned about safety and the campers well-being.
  • We transport the campers on a school bus with a certified driver.
  • Our Hockey Plus! 2020 Dates:
    • Week 1: July 20th
    • Week 2: July 27th
    • Week 3: August 3rd
    • Week 4: August 10th
    • Week 5: August 17th
  • The cost is $395 per week for full days (9AM to 3:30PM) and $345 for each additional week.
  • Each day we feature a Special Activity as listed below:

You can register by printing a registration form (on the camp website) and sending a check, or register online and use a credit card.

Open Letter From the South Shore Conference

Please read the following letter from the President of the South Shore Conference.  This is a very important issue for the conference as well as Marshfield Youth Hockey.  Continue to make Marshfield proud!

USA Hockey Codes of Conduct

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF

SOUTH SHORE CONFERENCE

November 2019

I find it hard to believe and very disappointing that I have to post this letter. Unfortunately those of us that do things the right way are also included in this and are guilty by association.

Recent events over the past few weeks not only have gained the attention of this Board, but that of MassHockey and USAHockey.

I’m here to inform you that what has been deemed acceptable in society, is not acceptable nor will it be tolerated by this Conference. When a coach at an 8 and under game loses control and berates, and belittles a young referee to the point that he is “done with refereeing” and his coaching staff along with the spectators join in, this is not acceptable behavior. When a coach at a 12 and under game shouts profanity at the referees, this will not be tolerated. When a spectator tries to enter the opposing team’s bench, this will not be tolerated.

I’m embarrassed to have to remind all of us how to conduct ourselves at a hockey rink.

Respect the opposing team and their fans. Keep comments positive and cheer your kids on!

Respect the on ice and off ice officials.

Respect the Players benches, coaches, locker rooms, and referee rooms.

Your actions, positive or negative have an incredible ripple effect. Remember not only are you representing your child, but the team, the program, and the community.

We are adults and role models and we need to start getting back to what we should be and not what we are becoming. We are Fans, not Fanatics!

When you arrive at a rink, before you open the door, take a deep breath, whatever is bothering you, leave it outside and remind yourself whatever the capacity of your role is, you are there for the children and not yourself. The same can be said for when you leave the rink, leave the game inside. Sometimes for a young youth hockey player, the hardest part of the game is the ride home. Keep it positive, don’t dwell on the negative aspects of his/her game but reinforce the upside of the game, keep the love of the game alive.

Please take a minute and read the Coaches Code of Conduct. Please read the Parents Code of Conduct.

Joseph E Coulter

President

South Shore Conference
